Hawthorn Residence

A Toronto home redesigned for entertaining, with an open-concept main floor that balances scale, flow, and intimacy.

Made for a Crowd (and Still Works for Two)

These clients love to – so the house needed to keep up.

The main floor was completely reworked, opening up a series of smaller rooms into one large kitchen, dining, and living space. Everything now flows together and opens out to the garden, with a grand piano anchoring the room.

The challenge was making a space that could handle a full house without feeling overwhelming when it’s just the two of them. So we focused on balance.

Zones were created within the open space to keep things feeling connected but not cavernous. Materials, lighting, and furniture were chosen to bring warmth and structure, so the room feels just as comfortable on a quiet night as it does during a party.

It’s open, inviting, and designed to be used… whether it’s dinner for two or twenty.
